At the data center where i work we have two HP Netserver one is LP200r and one is LT600r.
CentOS won't install on both of them because the AMI Raid controller is not supported, actually no, it has an open source driver and was shipped with older versions of CentOS but what happened is that the megaraid driver got an upgrade that supports more features, more cards but doesn't work at all with older cards.

this is a shot at advocating opensource, well not really opensource but more on the right practices in IT as I see it

on launching new applications

the need for a new application at work arises when new requirements occur, maybe there is already an application doing part of the job but the needs are more or maybe their a new requirement in the work flow that needs a new application.
so now the decision is to be made, do we get an application or do we get a dev team to do that application!

Today i was told to add some static route on a Linux server, something to do with vmware. anyway, so here i am adding a line to the file /etc/rc.local to add that route
route add -net 10.0.0.0/24 gw 192.168.1.1 eth0
now my manager says no, i want it to survive a network service restart not just a server restart
now that's something i never did, but turns out to be as simple as that

* create a new file called static-routes under /etc/sysconfig/

* add a line per route as follows

# - any net 10.0.0.0/24 gw 192.168.1.1 eth0

OK maybe my history with qmail doesn't go a long way (just 3 month) but i guess i got a hold of it
I'm already running a mail server with 30+ domains and 3000+ mailboxes

what i want to do in this series of posts is talk about setting up a qmail server to host multiple domains, while there is a pretty good guide at www.qmailrocks.org i will not go into a lot of details, but rather explain things that i could not really get from qmailrocks.

i don't eat anything at work, take lunch with my pretty wife at home at around 7:00pm and spend some time at home before i sleep around 1:00 am

Friday: just sleep as much as i can ;)

lately i noticed a lot of commercials about fairness gels and creams

this really gets on my nerves here, they are trying to convince every girl out here that having a skin that is not white makes her a second degree human

i myself prefer a girl with a fair skin but never in the world I'd want want any woman to change her skin for me

this is so cheap

I'm a fedora fan since a very long time

but when i first saw suse 10.1 i liked it's looks so i installed it on my work PC and today was my first ride on the lizard's back ;)

so here is my preliminary impression:

looks:i tried gnome and it was so nice, clean and simple, they have some improvements over gnome's default layout.

YAST: that's the best thing till now about SUSE, it's the one stop administration panel, with lots of wizards and stuff, it makes life so easy

having two jobs is like having no life. it feels good but sometimes you just feel like getting your life back for a while i always tried to have a side job, sometimes for the experience and sometimes for the pay.i succeeded every now and then in having like side projects, and it was good, and then i was able to get a part time job, approx.

Before the author starts discussing the 7 habits, he describes the concept of effectiveness as the production/productiveness, meaning that effectiveness is the right balance between what is produced and the resources of the production.He gives an example of a farmer who found a chicken that gave him a golden egg daily, but he wanted more so he killed the chicken to get all the gold from inside her so he lost everything.the morale here is that he could have gotten the daily eggs as it is his maximum production power and would have made more production than trying to get more out of the chicken

when i first heard of this book i said to myself that it is just another book about success and how to get it the fast way, and then i heard of it many times and it seemed that it was interesting. anyways, it was by chance when i bought it to my wife.
